Brief: EU Commission Proposes Changes to Sustainability Reporting with New Omnibus

The EU Commission is proposing significant changes to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The Omnibus Package, noted as a “first series” in its February 26, 2025, release outlines changes that amend a series of directives, delegated acts, and regulations that address sustainability.

What is the Omnibus?  The EU has strategic initiatives (including the EU Green Deal, the recently released Competitiveness Compass, and a Simpler and Faster Europe), and the proposed Omnibus draws from each, in an effort to simplify sustainability reporting.

What does it mean for businesses and sustainability reporting professionals? Riveron’s brief outlines the potential impacts of the Omnibus. Note, the brief focuses on the proposed changes to the CSRD—these changes are not immediately in effect. An adoption process and, in some cases, Member State transposition will be needed.
