Delivering AI-Powered Contract Intelligence

A custom-built AI solution is transforming how one of the country’s largest construction companies reviews and manages legal contracts, all without sacrificing security or control.

Challenge

A large-scale infrastructure construction company behind some of the country’s most complex infrastructure projects like data centers, airports, and more, is no stranger to high-stakes contracts with razor-thin margins for error. The company’s NDA, software, and other agreements carry significant legal and financial implications.

But each one needed manual review, stretching a small in-house legal team thin to manage a time-consuming process. Making matters more complex, their extensive work with defense and government clients meant that uploading contracts to a commercial AI tool was a non-starter. Sensitive client information demanded a solution that could live entirely within their own secure environment for ultimate trust and control.

How We Helped

Riveron built a two-part AI solution designed to do exactly what the company needed, starting with a pilot that could deliver immediate value realization.

The entire solution runs within the client’s existing Azure environment, requiring no third-party cloud and no data that leaves their walls. Team members upload documents to a SharePoint folder, and the system takes things from there.

Automated contract review memo: When a contract is uploaded, the AI generates a structured review memo in minutes, which is work that might otherwise require hours spent by a junior associate or legal intern. The memo maps the contract against the company’s most critical recurring clauses, flagging where the document aligns with their preferred positions and where it deviates, with direct citations.

On-demand contract Q&A: An AI-powered chat interface lets the legal team ask natural language questions about any contract in the system, whether it was uploaded yesterday or years ago. Most critically, the agent is explicitly scoped: it surfaces relevant information for human review, not legal advice. The AI does the typically manually intensive and time-consuming reading, but the lawyers make the decisions.

The solution is also built to evolve. New clauses can be added to the library over time, and the underlying language model is swappable with a single line of code, meaning upgrades to more advanced AI models require no rebuild.

Results

With the agent in place, the company’s legal team can go directly to the clauses and risk factors that matter, skipping the manual read-through that consumed much of their time before. The comprehensive clause library also provides a layer of consistency and assurance that human review alone can’t guarantee.

Beyond day-to-day contract review, the solution positions the team to handle enterprise-level questions with confidence, including audit inquiries and corporate-level due diligence scenarios, like potential investor transactions or M&A activity, that would otherwise require costly external counsel.
