Implementing D365 Business Central to Streamline an Auto Parts Company’s New Acquisition

After an acquisition, an automotive parts distributor modernized its ERP environment on D365 Business Central, creating a single platform that reduced custom code, streamlined EDI and warehouse operations, and improved overall business management.

Challenge

An automotive parts distribution company completed an acquisition of a larger organization and needed to deploy a future state business system to support the new entity. A decision needed to be made to implement the new entity onto NetSuite, the acquiring companies' current ERP, or D365 Business Central, which was the newer platform of the solution the acquired entity was running at the time; Microsoft Dynamics NAV. The NAV environment was highly customized to the point where many of the modifications were unknown as to why they were in the environment or how they impacted business process.

Upon integrating the new entity onto a contemporary ERP platform, the distributor experienced a notable enhancement in its business management.

How Riveron helped

Riveron was engaged to analyze the existing platforms, assist the client in coming to a future state ERP decision, and then execute the implementation of the new solution.

Our team:

  • Analyzed the current-state and ultimately helped guide the client to decide on implementing D365 Business Central as it would be less of a change across the newly formed organization
  • Strategized on which customizations were needed to continue to support the future state business vs. which customizations were no longer needed that were originally deployed in the legacy NAV environment
  • Implemented an end-to-end ERP solution for Finance, Sales with EDI, Purchasing with container / on the water management, and Warehouse with outbound logistics integrations to carriers

Results

Upon integrating the new entity onto a contemporary ERP platform, the distributor experienced a notable enhancement in its business management. This consolidation led to a singular, robust system capable of supporting every facet of the business, encompassing all business units. Notably, this modern platform reduced reliance on custom code compared to the legacy system. A pivotal shift in operations was also observed as the warehouse floor took on greater responsibility. This decentralization ensured that specific warehouse tasks were executed more efficiently, and it brought about automation to tasks that were previously manual or redundant, especially in the shipping department. Additionally, the integration facilitated a more streamlined EDI solution, further optimizing the distributor’s operational efficiency.
